The original Leaf was the first mainstream battery-powered electric car to be released, courtesy of Nissan. It could manage one hundred miles between charges but since those early days battery technology has made great strides forward, including the latest Leaf version which now includes an extended range model.

Mainstream cars though remain the backbone of the brand with the hugely popular Qashqai being a best seller. Among all the various crossover and SUV-style vehicles available from Nissan, the company still have time to appeal to enthusiasts with the neat 370Z and the astonishingly fast and technically advanced GTR sports cars.

Nissan Design

With the need for great change in the automotive industry being driven by environment concerns, Nissan are pioneering new technologies with cleaner, advanced power trains and autonomous driving. The development of new chassis and underpinnings for the electric revolution has offered up the prospect of new vehicle shapes and new ways to express and conceive the way we build and use cars. The start of this modern revolution with Nissan is the very striking Ariya.

Nissan Cars

Spearing heading Nissan’s assault on the EV market and following on from the successful Leaf is the soon to be launched futuristic Ariya crossover. Sitting between the Qashqai and the mighty X-Trail, It comes with two or all-wheel drive with up to 310-miles of battery range, and two levels of power.

Buyers wishing to import the Nissan X-Trail from the UK will be glad to know that this venerable model is still going strong in its latest iteration. It’s a large, five-seat family SUV with the option to upgrade to seven seats for those needing to accommodate larger families. The 7-seat variant features the EZ Flex Seating System, making getting in and out of the three seat rows easy. The latest X-Trail comes with a dual-clutch transmission and a clever 1.3 litre engine, earlier versions have a choice of petrol or diesel motors.

For outdoor families or business users to whom VAT-qualifying cars would be an advantage and who require a robust no-nonsense vehicle, the Navarra pick-up truck fits the bill. These days they have all the creature comforts and cutting-edge technology of their road-going siblings but also with the added bonus of a flat load bed and strong drive-train for work or for play.

Nissan have a great selection of alternative choices, like the Micra city car and the useful Juke crossover but it is the Qashqai SUV that has captured the public imagination. The existing models have proved to be a buyer’s favourite so the soon to be released third-generation has a tough act to follow. The new car will feature all-new looks, and have a hybrid engine line-up and all the latest automotive technology.

The Qashqai has a spacious and comfortable interior. And offers a high-riding driving position with plenty of visibility of the road ahead. Like all Nissan products, the Qashqai is a very comfortable and well-finished all rounder.

Future Nissan

Nissan have big plans for our automotive future. There are concept models in various stages of development across the range of saloons, crossovers and sport utility vehicles (SUV). The Vmotion 2.0 for example is a dramatic take on the executive saloon car with an extended wheelbase to deliver a generous cabin. In the immensely crowded crossover sector the ‘codename Gripz’ concept has an advanced hybrid EV powertrain, that Nissan are calling a game-changer. Meanwhile, Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility solutions which radically alter how we drive and how cars communicate with each other.
