How much does it cost to import a car to Jersey?
When you import a car to Jersey from the UK, you will need to pay 5% GST to the customs authorities in Jersey. This is based on the value of the car and includes the cost of freight and insurance too.
The shipping costs are around £225 from the UK.
Vehicle emissions duty is also payable on an car which hasn't been registered in Jersey. This is based on the manufacturer's CO2 emissions data.
Go to the customs declaration and payments website to make your declarations online. Then visit Driver and Vehicle Standards at La Collette to complete your registration.
Road tax and car registration in Jersey
There is no road tax in Jersey. Drivers pay the GST on new purchases and then tax on fuel.
You will need to register your car immediately with Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS). This can be done once customs have cleared it and all relevant duties have been paid.

to complete your registration you will need the following documents:
Jersey driving licence
Valid insurance certificate or cover note for your car
Jersey customs import declaration
Registration certificate or export certificate
The registration document or certificate of permanent export for the vehicle (If imported from the UK sections 1 to 8 of the V5C document will be needed)]
The certificate of type approval for cars under 25 years old
Your invoice or bill of purchase of your car
