Every bit as good as the prestige German brands, the Jaguar company today builds luxurious vehicles, from executive business cars, through sport utility vehicles to high performance sports machines.
Jaguar Design
Considering the Jaguar E-Type is still considered to be one of the most beautiful cars ever made over sixty years later, it has not proved to be too much of a tough act to follow. Jaguar design is consistently interesting and instantly recognisable. The current superb F-Type sports cars even has design cues taken from that original icon from years ago.
Good design should push the boundaries of what is possible to achieve a fresh look and a dramatic mix of elegance and proportion, coupled with power and performance on the road. Most brands these days go for a ‘look’ that identifies the brand. Jaguar have been more successful than most, starting from the original grille and famous badge. The silhouette is unmistakable. It is said that a car is special if the owner turns and looks back at it when walking away. Throughout the range, Jags have this effect.
Jaguar Cars
The Jaguar range is small, just six cars, but the company can still say that they offer something for everyone. Each of the six models do of course have variants in terms of trim, specifications and motive power.
To stir the senses, the F-Type, in coupé or convertible form, has proved to be a worthy successor to the E-Type. Powered by a 296bhp four-cylinder engine or a growling 444bhp V8, the F-type offers either two- or four-wheel drive via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. VAT qualifying Jaguar cars like the prestige XE and XF saloons fit the bill for business or luxurious family transport. Both deliver a sleek exterior design, hinting at underlying performance, plus luxurious interiors and advanced technologies. An interesting note here for business users is that the XE offers a diesel variant compliant with the stringent RDE2 NOx emissions limit. This is of benefit to company car drivers in the UK.
Any car range would not be complete without a selection of SUV-style vehicles. The first and the biggest is the F-Pace. Great to drive, the company use aluminium and other light materials to keep the weight down, aiding overall performance and economy. Like most vehicles in the range, there’s a choice of diesel, petrol and hybrid power.
The E-Pace downsizes a bit, being a compact family SUV that balances practicality and driver enjoyment. This sporty and stylish model is a great alternative to the German brands. The futuristic looking I-Pace when introduced was the world’s first premium all-electric performance SUV. A fast charging capability makes owning and driving even easier.
Jaguar Technology
With the electrification of Jaguar underway, the I-Pace shows the way forward with systems that include uprated connectivity and infotainment. Battery management and charging can be updated remotely and enable the I-Pace to continuously improve over time. Air quality is to the fore as Jaguar add cabin air ionisation systems in the XE and XF to capture airborne particles and allergens. Expect to find the very latest in safety and driver assistance technology right across the range.
Future Jaguar
Jaguar plan to be be all-electric by 2025, either with self-charging or plug-in hybrids and of course fully electric cars of which the I-Pace is the first. The brand has styled its future development with the catchword, ‘reimagined’. Six new luxury electric models will appear in the next five years and clean hydrogen fuel-cell power is being developed in preparation for future demand.
