Car import timings from the UK to Botswana
How long does it take to import a UK car to Botswana?
It usually takes 30 days to import a UK car to Walvis Bay or Durban.
Day 1: Car identified and balance payment received.
Days 2-8: Car inspected, purchased and delivered to the UK port.
Days 9-29: Car loaded and shipped to Walvis Bay or Durban.
Days: 30-40: Car transits to Gaberone and registered.

Car import restrictions
Botswana does not have any restriction on importing motor vehicles. Customs duties and VAT will apply and these should be cleared within 14 days of the vehicle entering Botswana. Customs clearance of a motor vehicle should be done even if it will not be registered in Botswana. Residents of Botswana are not allowed to drive or use foreign registered vehicles in the Botswana for more than fourteen days after importation of such vehicle. If you are intending to do so please contact your nearest customs office for advice. Should you be found in possession of a foreign registered vehicle severe penalties including seizure of vehicles may be imposed. Do remember to arrange insurance for your vehicle from the point it reaches either Port or from the moment your clearing agent transfers your car to you.
