When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get A VW Amarok | MHH International
Replacing the previous model’s 2.0L turbo-diesel engine, the beating heart of the new Amarok is a 3.0L V6 TDI power plant, making it the only six-cylinder model in this commercial segment. The top-of-the-range version of this engine delivers 221bhp (224PS) and 550Nm of torque driven through a fitted as standard eight-speed automatic gearbox The top speed is now 119mph and the 0 to 62mph time of 8.0 seconds means this model now rivals the best SUVs for on-road performance. An overboost function can take the power up to 236bhp when required.
Further iterations of this V6 TDI engine include a 201bhp (204PS) version which is available to order at launch with an automatic gearbox, plus a choice of manual gearbox options to follow.
The Volkswagen Amarok combines car-like comfort and technology with full off-road capability. Customers can choose from selectable (with manual gearbox) and permanent (with auto) 4MOTION four-wheel drive. An optional mechanical rear-axle differential lock is also available for demanding off-road use.
Amarok also gets a new look. Distinguishing itself from the previous model, it now has a new front bumper and radiator grille design including front fog lights, new alloy wheels and a third brake light with LED technology.
Inside the cabin the changes are more prominent with an all-new dash panel design which incorporates VW’s MIB infotainment system with touchscreen, radio and new technology. This includes the option of navigation, Guide & Inform, Car-Net and App-Connect systems. Bluetooth and DAB digital radio are also now standard features as you would expect.
Amarok impresses with its list of safety features. There’s four airbags, Electronic Stabilisation Programme and the German company’s award-winning Automatic Post-Collision Braking System. Additional highlights including Park Pilot and a rear-view camera also enhance comfort, convenience and safety.
UK specifications follow the previous model’s pattern. As such they range from Startline (this will appear later in 2017), through Trendline to Highline. Special editions will also be offered during the model’s life, for example the range-topping Aventura, 240 examples of which are available from launch. Expect that to sell out fast.
Unquestionably, The new Volkswagen Amarok combines everything you would expect from a premium and exclusive all-rounder, and don’t forget: It will still offer all the workhorse characteristics of old for the business user. At launch, prices for the new Amarok start at £32,493 and deliveries commence early in 2017.
