For 2025, the extremely popular Volvo XC60 sport utility vehicle (SUV) is benefitting from a significant refresh, featuring key updates in user experience, design and comfort, along with a faster and more responsive infotainment system. The broader model range also gets a number of significant enhancements. It’s the Swedish brand’s best selling model and these days it is a plug-in hybrid. With its cutting-edge user experience, modernised Scandinavian design, improved comfort and even more luxurious interior, the XC60 sets the standard even higher for mid-size cars in this premium sector.

Similarly, the imposing XC90 has also been given a new look and is distinguished by fresh exterior design details that amplify its clean, contemporary styling and create a stronger visual connection to its fully electric counterpart, the EX90 SUV. These changes include a new grille treatment with an eye-catching new graphic, slimmer headlight units (while still retaining the distinctive ‘Thor’s Hammer’ detailing) and a re-profiled bonnet and front bumper.

The new model is available with a choice of three equipment grades: Core, Plus and Ultra. Befitting the XC90’s flagship status, the equipment specification across the board is rich in features to provide the highest levels of safety, comfort, infotainment and driving pleasure.

On The Outside

The exterior of the latest version of this fine all-round SUV brings a more contemporary look to the premium five-seater. The new air intake, with Volvo Cars’ iconic ‘iron’ mark, reflects the recent updates to the flagship XC90. The company have also added new wheel options and darker rear lights as well as two new colours,
‘Forest Lake’ and ‘Aurora Silver’. In addition, a dark ‘Mulberry Red’ will be available on the Volvo XC60 for the first time. It’s good to see red coming back into fashion, although this Volvo colour is a very deep metallic. Makes a refreshing change from the usual ‘safe’ colours.

On The Inside

Thanks to an even quieter cabin and Volvo’s legendary seat comfort as standard, riding in the XC60 is more comfortable than ever before. For an even more luxurious ride, there is the optional air suspension and laminated windows. The refreshed XC60 is also equipped with Volvo Cars’ state-of-the-art air-purification technology for enhanced well-being. A new-generation, new-look user experience, designed to be a safe and enjoyable way to interact with the car’s larger-than-before central infotainment screen, it being more focused and personalised than its predecessor, with several Google services built in.

In terms of materials, a mix of refreshed interior decors, inlays and new prestige materials such as ‘Quilted Nordico’ and ‘Navy Herringbone Weave’ offers a more exclusive and contemporary experience. With smart storage, new cupholders, an improved wireless phone charger and a flexible and roomy load compartment, the interior of the XC60 is versatile and practical. For exceptional car audio, the XC60 is available with the Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity system – with new speaker mesh design – which faithfully replicates music just as the artist intended, making it one of the best-sounding car audio systems, they say.

The XC60 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine that utilizes a 48-volt hybrid system, driving through an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.

On The Inside

As well as the externals mentioned above the latest XC90 (including the gorgeous ‘Mulberry Red’ paint) also has a revised and more premium interior. Inside, the principal change is the introduction of a new, ‘free-standing’ 11.2 inch touchscreen control system. The unit, like the one introduced in the EX30 and EX90 electric models, has a higher-resolution display than the one in the outgoing XC90 and is designed for easier, more intuitive operation. It brings one-touch access to the most frequently used functions and apps, as well as the Drive Mode settings in plug-in hybrid versions. There’s also seamless software updates, over the air.

Alongside its distinctive design and advanced equipment features, the XC90 remains an eminently practical award-winning family car. The new model retains a fully flexible seven-seat layout and a load compartment offering 680 litres of storage space in the mild-hybrid petrol versions and 640 litres in the plug-in hybrid (measured to the glass line, with the two rearmost seats folded down).

XC90 Power

The new XC90 comes in a choice of three trim levels with either a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid or a petrol mild-hybrid power-train. Together with the fully electric EX90, this provides consumers with a wide choice of electrified power options at the highest level in the Volvo line-up.

The T8 petrol-electric plug-in hybrid offers up to 44 miles of electric driving, with battery recharging from empty to full taking from three hours. With a 310BHP (314PS) petrol engine and a 145bhp (equivalent) electric motor, the T8 can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 5.4 seconds. The B5 mild-hybrid petrol delivers 250BHP (253PS) and accelerates from 0-62mph in 7.7 seconds.
