As with most Jeep models, the Recon is built for adventure and outdoor experiences. This all-new Jeep is the only fully electric premium, fully ‘Trail Rated’ Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) currently available as far as can be established, delivering typically rugged capability as expected from a Jeep only in a fully electrified form.

Unlike many cars with off-road potential, the Recon is built with a purpose-designed electric architecture, blending powerful performance with authentic all-wheel-drive (4xe) capability. The model’s standard fit, all-electric, four-wheel drive system delivers confident traction across diverse terrain we learn, enhanced by the Jeep exclusive ‘Selec-Terrain’ system with multiple drive modes tailored for all conditions.

Power!

Producing 485kW (650BHP / 659PS equivalent) and 841Nm of virtually instant torque, the Jeep Recon, like most electric vehicles (EV), will offer precise control from the first touch of the throttle and will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 3.7 seconds, so say the company. With an estimated all-electric range of up to 250 miles (depending on trim and regional differences) the Recon represents a bold, electrified expression of the Jeep DNA; that is to say trail ready, adventure ready and readily rugged.

The 2026 Jeep Recon is a bold step forward for this traditional brand; an all-electric SUV that stays true to the core values of this off-road company. Properly trail-rated, purpose-built for the job and ready to take Jeep enthusiasts into the electric future without compromising the legendary performance. That’s the current word anyway. The point is that the brand is trying to show that electrification isn’t just compatible with off-road driving, it can elevate it thanks to instant torque, precision control and a quieter, more connected driving experience. This tough EV will appear first in the Americas as we might expect but the rest of us can anticipate the Recon to be available late in 2026.

Yes, The Doors Come Off

The premium Jeep Recon comes standard with a double sunroof, with a one-touch opening feature as an optional extra. No, there isn’t a problem with the model in our images, because, yes, like the brilliant Wrangler, the doors can be removed, as can the rear quarter glass and tailgate glass, all without tools, for that full, wind-in-your-hair-wrestle-a-bear outdoor experience.

The Drive

As mentioned, at the time off writing this is the only fully electric ‘Trail Rated’ SUV on the horizon. The Jeep Recon is, they say, engineered to conquer diverse terrain from grungy urban streets to rugged wilderness trails.

At the heart of the Jeep Recon propulsion system are the front and rear electric drive modules (EDMs), each rated at 250kw, delivering standard electric 4x4 propulsion and instant torque on demand. Each EDM combines an electric motor, gearing and power electronics into a single, compact unit for enhanced efficiency.

The propulsion system is, as mentioned, rated at 841Nm of torque, allowing the driver to access all of it almost instantly, without waiting for conventional engine revolutions to build. Jeep engineers have calibrated the throttle for precise, controlled torque delivery, ensuring a satisfying, yet potentially very different, off-road driving experience.

Off-road performance is further enhanced by an electronic locking differential, which ensures torque is delivered to both rear wheels when engaged. At the flip of a switch, the driver can seamlessly transition an open differential to fully locked.

The Traditional Exterior

It’s a Jeep so the exterior is always going to be heritage-inspired honouring the brand’s legacy through iconic design cues while presenting a modern, all-electric vision of adventure; hopefully exciting loyal enthusiasts whilst inspiring a new generation of trailblazers.

Expansive glass enhances visibility, while the upright front face features illuminated seven-slot grille rings, U-shaped daytime running lights and a full suite of standard premium LED lighting.

Gloss Black accents on the grille, pillars and window trim, with an optional Gloss Black roof, add striking visual contrast. At the rear, there’s Wrangler-inspired LED tail-lamps and a swing tailgate that carries a full-size, rear-mounted spare tyre.

A Modern Interior

The 2026 Jeep Recon interior looks great and seems purpose-built for mixed driving; rugged utility meets refined innovation, let’s say. The cabin combines durable, trail-ready materials with smart, customisable storage and advanced technology, creating a space that seems both functional and forward-thinking.

At the heart of the interior is an iconic horizontal layout anchored by a bold passenger-side grab handle and a clean, symmetrical dash. Thoughtful details, such as a modular accessory rail atop the instrument panel for mounting cameras or navigation devices and scuff-resistant vortex-textured surfaces, reinforce the off-road readiness and technical edge of the Jeep Recon.

Designed with the modern adventurer in mind, the Jeep Recon interior redefines utility with expanded storage and adaptable functionality. A two-tiered pass-through centre console offers generous room for gear, featuring an optional wireless charger on the upper level and a cord pass-through to a lower compartment ideal for tablets, bags or larger items.

Modular door panels with removable elastic straps and interchangeable cargo solutions provide flexible organisation, while a huge rear cargo space (with the second row folded) and a front boot (trunk - where the engine used to be), which is sized for a carry-on suitcase, thus ensuring the Jeep Recon is ready for long journeys.

In line with today’s sustainability aims, recycled materials are integrated throughout the cabin, reflecting the brand’s commitment to said sustainability. Seat, console, door and instrument panel surfaces are finished in ‘Capri’, a refined, non-leather synthetic material, complemented by distinctive accents. The headliner and carpets also incorporate recycled content, while rugged all-weather mats in the front, second row and rear cargo area offer durable protection against the elements, reinforcing the vehicle’s adventurous spirit and eco-conscious design.

For music lovers, the Jeep Recon comes standard with a premium Alpine audio system. Repositioned speakers, moved from the traditional door mounts to beneath the seats, ensure uninterrupted sound quality even with the doors removed. This thoughtful design allows drivers and passengers to fully embrace the outdoors without sacrificing audio performance. The Jeep Recon stands alone in its segment as the only EV to offer premium sound as standard equipment.

Technology

The idea is that the Recon will redefine the driving experience with a technologically advanced cabin with more than twenty-six inches of high-definition, sculpted screen space designed to elevate both on-road and off-road journeys. At the heart of this innovation is an all-new, standard, 12.3 inch driver cluster featuring customisable menu options and modern graphics, paired with a groundbreaking 14.5 inch horizontal touchscreen centre display, the largest singular usable digital screen space ever offered in a Jeep vehicle.

New, integrated digital controls offer a clean, intuitive interface, while physical knobs for volume and tuning ensure tactile functionality remains where it matters most. Powered by ‘Uconnect 5’, the most advanced Jeep infotainment system to date, the new interface delivers unmatched clarity, brightness and customisation. The sleek, buttonless design blends futuristic aesthetics with practical usability, featuring digital buttons sized for ease of use in any terrain. Larger dynamic displays also enhance readability for maps and camera views.

Optimised BEV (battery electric vehicle) pages deliver real-time insights into the vehicle’s state of charge, while ‘Dynamic Range Mapping’ powered by ‘TomTom’ helps plan long trips with precision by showing when and where to charge. Further added enhancements include ‘Amazon Alexa’ functionality and an updated Jeep mobile app that supports scheduled maintenance, roadside assistance, accident support, and real-time safety and recall notifications, pushing the boundaries of vehicle technology and delivering a driving experience that is smarter, safer and more connected than ever before.
