For a luxury vehicle, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has been a surprisingly big seller and for good reason. It combines the perfection and high-tech solutions of the Mercedes-Benz flagship model with the exclusivity and tradition of Maybach. The 18cm longer wheelbase entirely benefits the passengers in the back. That’s why, thanks to Executive seats as standard and the ‘Chauffeur Package’, the rear section becomes a comfortable working or resting area, complemented by exclusive details such as large areas of wood trim on the rear of the front seats and between the two rear passengers.
With this model, the prestige and long-standing German collaboration of Mercedes with Maybach emphasises a progressive, modern approach of an exclusive 21st Century product. This luxury car offers exclusivity and individuality, an elegant design and a premium-class standard of finish, combined with the very latest technology. Extraordinarily quiet in use, this is real automotive luxury.
Luxury Transport
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is a classic three-box saloon in the traditional style and with perfect proportions. These are determined by a short front overhang, a long wheelbase and a well-balanced rear overhang with large wheels. Distinguishing features at the front include the distinctive bonnet (hood) with a chromed fin and the Mercedes-Maybach radiator grille. This is highly recognisable by its vertical, three-dimensional trim strips. The keyword mark ‘MAYBACH’ is elegantly integrated into the chrome surround of the grille.

The equally distinctive bumper further emphasises the vehicle's width with the shape of its air inlets, whose black mesh is also optionally available in chrome. The luxury Mercedes-Maybach S-Class also differs from related models when viewed from the side: The flowing, more upright C-pillars underline the model's superlative status while the fixed quarter-light in the C-pillar is framed by a high-quality surround that seamlessly blends into the side trim. Exclusivity is emphasised by the Maybach brand logo, also on the C-pillar. As an option, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class can be equipped with electrically operated comfort rear doors.
The headlights offer ‘Digital Light’ delivering brilliant lighting conditions. The HD system works like a projector and responds with constantly adapted light to changing traffic, road or weather conditions. The projection features and ‘Ultra Range’ high beam, among others, also make the driving experience safer.
The Power
This prestigious vehicle is available with a choice of two engine variants: the S 580 4MATIC is powered by an eight-cylinder petrol engine with integrated second-generation starter-alternator, 48-volt onboard electrical system (Mild Hybrid). Meanwhile, the S 680 4MATIC features the familiar V12, for the first time combined with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Other highlights of the engine include cylinder shut-off when cruising. Both engines drive through a silky-smooth nine-speed automatic transmission.
Deceptively quick, this is, nevertheless, a car for long range cruising despite up to 612 BHP (620PS) and 700Nm of torque (V12) on tap in the most powerful option. It has a ‘Sport’ setting but there’s power aplenty anyway and, despite its size, the car handles remarkably well in corners with very little body roll, suiting a smooth driving style. Offered with the highest level of assistance and automation, the modern systems can support the driver in many ways to travel in a more relaxed way. For example, in motorway tail-backs and traffic jams, the ‘Drive Pilot’ can follow a vehicle ahead autonomously.

The Premium Interior
With generous space and offering extreme comfort in the back, the interior of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is based on a completely new interior design. With digital and analogue luxury as standard, the dashboard, centre console and armrests form a single sculptural unit that appears to ‘float’. Up to five display screens are available. Included as standard is a 12.8 inch OLED central display as a high tech control centre. A 12.3 inch 3D driver display with three-dimensional representation of other road users and pronounced depth and shade effects is available optionally.
The distinctive look of the driver display in ‘Exclusive’ display mode underlines the special status of the Mercedes-Maybach. The surrounds of the dial instruments are in the brand colour rosé gold, also featuring in the active ambient lighting (optional equipment). Adaptive rear lighting celebrates its premiere in the Mercedes-Maybach. This apparently follows the wishes of previous customers in several respects: as well as the brightness, the size and position of the light spot can be adjusted, while the light colour can also be selected. There is also a wide adjustment range between precise working light and relaxing lounge light. An example of a car maker that listens to its customers.
There is plenty of classic luxury on board, too: new features include the large areas of trim on the front seats; and high-quality wood surrounds encase the rear of the front seat backrests. If the ‘First-Class Rear’ is specified, a similarly striking area of trim is positioned between the two rear passengers.
The latest generation of the intelligent MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) system is featured in the Maybach S-Class. The unique feature of MBUX is its networking with a wide range of vehicle systems and sensor data. Brilliant displays on up to five large screens, in part with OLED technology, make it even easier to control vehicle and comfort functions. The ‘MBUX Augmented Reality Head-up Display’ turns the windscreen into a part of the digital cockpit. Transparent projections onto the windscreen augment the driver's field of vision with relevant information about current driving situations.
