The BMW X7 shares in many ways the design of its smaller siblings, but it is in fact fairly unique, designed to be as luxurious as possible. Think of it as a 7 Series saloon car on steroids and you will be about right. The X7 is a large, comfortable and accommodating SUV (sport utility vehicle) that offers five or seven seats and is as capable off road as it is on it.

The Comfort

Some features are model dependent, so check with us here at MHH International. For example, The X7 xDrive30d’s standard-fit sport seats include front seat heating, adjustable side bolstering and front-row lumbar support whereas the X7 M50d has ‘Comfort’ seats with memory function for driver and front passenger, as well as lumbar support. For added support, the second row features comfort cushions for the outer headrests, the whole trimmed in soft Alcantara. Premium ‘Vernasca’ leather upholstery comes standard on both the above models.

A standard four-zone climate control ensures ample ventilation throughout the cabin. A five-zone climate control may be offered to further cover the third row seats. Thanks to the expansive three-part panorama sunroof and large-surface windows, natural light floods the interior, making riding in the X7 a true pleasure. The seemingly now ubiquitous ambient lighting that most prestige car makers favour, illuminates the interior further, enhancing, they say, the luxurious and contemporary 21st Century atmosphere.

The Technology

Again, models vary in the on-board tech but for the most part the SUV seamlessly integrates the latest technologies into an elegant dash design, ensuring connectivity while delivering a premium driving experience. In combination with the generous 12.3” displays for the fully digital instrument cluster and centre display, the latest BMW Operating System 7.0 allows for intuitive customisation to suit the driver. BMW ‘Live Cockpit Professional’ can also be operated via BMW Gesture Control, iDrive touch controller, touch display and intelligent voice control to suit all preferences.

An extensive range of BMW Connected Drive services, including Real Time Traffic Information and Concierge Services, ensures customers can stay connected to the outside world (regionally variable). An added feature is the Connect Command function that grants passengers the ability to check the journey’s route via the BMW Connected app or adjust on-board entertainment programme and climate control settings. That’s just what you need isn’t it? The children changing the music or temperature behind your back.

There’s a high-resolution BMW Head-Up Display delivers required information to the driver’s direct field of vision and ensures the focus is on the road complimented by the very latest in comprehensive and innovative driver assistance systems.

The Drive

The BMW X7 xDrive30d features a TwinPower twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with variable turbine geometry while the X7 M50d houses a TwinPower quad-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with two variable-vane turbines and two conventional turbines. This variant will complete the standard sprint in an impressive 5.4 seconds.

Complementing the powerful engines is the latest version of the eight-speed Steptronic transmission which boasts a wider gear ratio spread for smoother travel plus new controls. Meanwhile, both have the latest generation of BMW xDrive, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system that varies drive torque split between front and rear wheels to optimise traction and power efficiency.

The styling of this car is a personal choice but is very typically BMW. It’s a great car to drive and move families around in safety and comfort all backed up by the knowledge of the German brand’s automotive expertise.
