For many years, the GLC has been one of the most popular models from one of Germany’s prestige car makers, Mercedes-Benz. Over time, this model has repeatedly toppedthe charts as the brand’s bestseller, worldwide. Just announced, the all-new emission-free electric GLC is set to expand the premium brand’s line-up starting in the first half of 2026. Mercedes-Benz state that they have listened to their global customers and that feedback from around the world has defined the development of the electric GLC from the start. This latest offering certainly looks purposeful; the design is refined and unmistakably a GLC sport utility vehicle (SUV).

About The New Car

The new GLC embodies the classic proportions of a Mercedes-Benz mid-size SUV in a modern and striking way. It’s the first Mercedes-Benz with the redesigned brand-defining chromed grille. As an illuminated high-tech feature, this special grille redefines the face of the brand, exuding prestige and self-confidence. The dynamic silhouette, with its sculptural shoulder lines and pronounced wheel arches, emphasises its powerful presence.

It’s all new from the ground up apparently and comes fully loaded with the company’s EQ Technology, marking a turning point in the mid-size automotive segment. The GLC leads us into the new world of electric motoring with an elevated design language and intelligence powered by the AI-driven Mercedes-Benz operating system (MB.OS), or ‘super brain’, as they prefer to call it in our computerised world.

Built electric-first, it’s the first model in a completely new EV family, in that it excels in performance, range, efficiency and charging speed. At the same time, it sets new standards, we learn, in its class for design, value, versatility and space: The all-new GLC offers even more legroom and headroom than its conventionally powered siblings as well as an impressive 2.4-tonne towing capacity.

The Premium Interior

Greeting passengers as they step into this latest GLC is the stunning and, again all-new, seamless ‘MBUX Hyperscreen’. At 99.3 centimetres (39.1 inches), it is the largest screen in a Mercedes-Benz to-date. Combined with a warm and inviting ambient light that illuminates even the starry ‘Sky Control’ panoramic roof (of which more later), taking to a new level a prestige feeling of Mercedes-Benz-level comfort and safety. This aforementioned ‘super-brain’ interacts naturally with occupants, ensuring a seamless and intelligent journey. Not only does the operating system handle complexity akin to the human brain, but it also leverages extremely powerful chips capable of an astonishing 254 trillion operations per second. That’s probably faster than this writer’s brain.

A new departure for 2026 also sets new standards in interior equipment with the optional ‘Vegan Package’. This sumptuous suite of interior materials is certified by no less an august body than the The Vegan Society. It makes Mercedes-Benz the first car manufacturer worldwide to offer an independently certified vegan interior, it seems. It looks good enough to eat.

The all-new GLC is designed to be the epitome of versatility, spaciousness and comfort, making it the perfect companion for everyday adventures. Seamlessly building on the proven qualities of the popular model series, the electric GLC takes things up a notch. With a wheelbase that’s longer compared to the sibling combustion GLC versions, passengers can enjoy an exceptionally roomy and comfortable ride with more legroom and headroom. New high-end seats and new steering wheel with improved ergonomics. The new seats of the GLC offer the highest comfort, ensuring that drivers and passengers arrive refreshed.

Up front, the car exudes high-tech perfection: The all-new ‘MBUX Hyperscreen’ creates a welcoming, immersive experience. Its exceptional sharpness is thanks to high resolution and innovative matrix-backlight technology. In combination with the new styles, this technology creates a unique sense of digital sophistication and leads to a completely new immersive interior experience.

There’s more: For those requiring ample storage space, the GLC has a boot (trunk) that provides a generous 570 litres of capacity and, when the rear seats are folded down, it expands to an impressive 1,740 litres. Additionally, the ‘frunk’ (front trunk) contributes an extra 128 litres of load capacity and can be opened partially electrically via touch control. Whether preparing for a weekend getaway or a substantial shopping trip, the new GLC accommodates all needs.

Additionally, the car offers up to 2.4 tonnes of towing capacity: For heavy pulling the easy way for leisure, sports and family holidays, The GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ Technology can tow up to 2.4 tonnes braked, making it ideal for large caravans, boat or horse trailers. The drawbar load of 100 kilograms allows for the transport of electric bicycles on a suitable carrier too. For towing, there’s trailer stabilisation and ‘Trailer Manoeuvring Assist’, for safe manoeuvring . Perfect for a weekend camping trip.

The one-piece panoramic roof is made from insulating, laminated safety glass and creates a captivating atmosphere in the interior. As an optional extra, the impressively large glass surface can also switch between transparent and opaque. The surface is divided into nine switchable zones. Customers can individually choose how much light comes in. At night, the ambient lighting (also optional) creates a stunning effect. 162 stars are integrated into the glass surface and can be illuminated, creating a magical experience; children would love that.

The Drive

The GLC’s unparalleled driving experience includes the ‘One-Box’ braking system. The One-box EHB (Electro-Hydraulic Braking system) brake-by-wire technology combines the electric booster and wheel-cylinder control module into one box and can improve vehicle stability and comfort functions. It provides exceptionally smooth, consistent and assured deceleration, whether via energy recovery or friction braking. The drive systems take advantage of up to ten external cameras, five radar sensors and no less than twelve ultrasonic sensors to offer first-class advanced driver assistance.

With intelligent air suspension familiar from the prestigious S-Class model, the all-new GLC guarantees supreme ride comfort. This combines with 4.5-degree rear-axle steering ensures exceptional agility. The range-topping GLC 400 4MATIC features a terrain mode as a driving programme for field or gravel roads, adjusting the characteristics of the drive, steering and brakes. The ‘transparent bonnet’ function enables a virtual view under the front of the vehicle by combining images from the front camera and the exterior mirror cameras. It goes without saying that safety, technology and infotainment is state of the art for the digital age.

A seamless and intuitive charging experience is also guaranteed with the integrated reservation function for charging stations as part of the ‘MB.CHARGE’ public service. Mercedes-Benz is the first manufacturer to offer such a feature. Furthermore, the all-new GLC is equipped with the technology for bi-directional charging. Own brand navigation with ‘Electric Intelligence’ always plans the fastest and most comfortable route including charging stops at compatible charging stations, considering factors such as topography, route layout and weather information. Mercedes-Benz is continuously expanding its charging network.
