Over the last twenty years the Peugeot brand has gone from being a poor relation to one of the more popular members of the automotive family. Heir vehicles just get better and better and it certainly looks like the all-new Peugeot 5008 will break new ground as a large seven-seater SUV in this popular segment.

As a new contender in this growing consumer market, it appears to offer many good points. The 5008 SUV includes the latest digital version of the truly outstanding Peugeot i-Cockpit and a plethora of high-tech features that enhance comfort and safety.

 

The Look

The 5008 has a dynamic design at a time when many SUVs are starting to look the same yet it remains a superbly practical vehicle. With seven seats, this new car from the French brand is the first SUV to offer modularity on a par with that of the best people-carriers.

 

The 5008 has an imposing exterior that sets it apart from the herd. The long, horizontal bonnet, vertical face and raised body line conveys power. The whole makes for a long and dynamic profile. At the front, the wide grille with chrome fins is exclusive, while the rear design features the gloss black strip and the signature LED ‘claw effect’ rear lights.

The Power

The company will offer a range of powerful and efficient engines and designs - Active, Allure and  sporty GT Line and GT versions - when the car is launched in the Spring in the UK. The range of engines will be Euro 6.1 compliant powertrains. Whether the choice is petrol or diesel, all versions stand out above their competitors with engines of the same power class. CO² emissions are as low as 117g/km for petrol and only 108g/km for diesel on UK specification vehicles.

 

The Passengers

Inside, the driver’s environment is unique with the newest version of the innovative and futuristic i-Cockpit, which offers a novel driving experience. With its compact steering wheel, a large 8” touchscreen dashboard and a spectacular 12.3” high-resolution digital head-up display, driver environment with its superior graphics.

The overall length of the vehicle (4.64m) remains compact and is one of the most conservatively proportioned vehicles of its type. Clever design however makes it very spacious for passengers.

It stands out in the market with an innovative configuration that includes three matching, separate, folding seats in the second row, that are adjustable in length and inclination.

 

Additionally, two removable, separate, folding seats are available in the third row. The boot offers up to an outstanding 1060 litres with a hands-free powered tailgate. Optionally, a folding front passenger seat can be ordered to accommodate long loads. Very useful for trips to the DIY store.

Driving and travelling pleasure that rivals the best touring vehicles

Along with other models in the Peugeot range, the 5008 offers true driving and travelling pleasure thanks to excellent sound insulation and a number of features for the comfort of all passengers. Body-hugging front seats feature an optional multi-point massage system; there’s a premium Hi-Fi system and a large panoramic opening glass roof is available. The 5008 has the best in permanent connectivity with the Mirror Screen function and 3D connected navigation system.

The Safety

As buyers have a right to expect, all the safety features are on board including cutting-edge Advanced Driver Assistance Systems that make driving even safer with an arsenal of safety features including for braking, proximity and parking among others.

 

The all-new Peugeot 5008 SUV is like a breath of fresh air in a worthy but slightly dull sector. Definitely one for the short-list.
