We are not revealing any secrets here that Mercedes-Benz is one of the foremost prestige car makers in the world. Over the decades other brands have caught up and the premium sector is now packed with superb vehicles. Mercedes needed to step up and so they have: This is the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

The S-Class is the centerpiece of the brand. Buyers can expect legendary engineering and craftsmanship coupled with the very latest in progressive digital innovation. Today’s S-Class combines 21st Century artificial intelligence with the experience gained from over one hundred years of car manufacture. Since its market launch in 1951, more than 4 million S-Class saloons have been delivered to customers around the world.

Buyers of this model have come to know what to expect and loyalty is especially high. For example, around eighty percent of customers in Western Europe who previously drove an S-Class once again opted for a Mercedes-Benz model. It is the world's best-selling luxury saloon.

Mercedes S-Class

Modern automotive luxury reaches new heights inside the S-Class. The designers have created a feel-good ambience with authentic character marked by elegance and high quality. The dashboard with its new architecture, modern surface design and ergonomic display arrangement is a particular highlight.

With superb ride quality and low noise levels, as well as an extensive range of comfort programmes, the S-Class looks after the well-being of its passengers. They also stay fit thanks to the effective air filtering system, which signals its newly gained capability with the newly developed ‘Energising Air Control’.

This latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class has become more intelligent in many areas, and the driving experience is also at the next level. Digital innovations such as in MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) are joined by innovations that increase driving enjoyment while making driving even safer. Among them are rear-axle steering with a large steering angle and safety innovations such as the rear airbag.

A new innovation in suspension is realised with ‘E-Active Body Control’ system that can raise the vehicle body (on both sides) just before an impending side impact. (Note: This technology is not yet offered in the UK).

Following further development over the already superb existing model (still well worth considering as a current alternative), the driving assistance systems are a further step towards autonomous driving. Thanks to improved environmental sensors, for example, the parking systems give the driver even better support when manoeuvring at low speed. The integration into ‘MBUX’ means that the level of visualisation has now entered a whole new on-screen dimension.

Two different head-up displays (HUDs) are available on request. The larger HUD provides augmented reality content. When navigating, for example, animated turn-off arrows are virtually and precisely projected onto the road lane. For the assistance functions, information from ‘Active Distance Assist’ is shown. This is barely scratching the surface of this vehicle’s capabilities.

The Future

It is expected that from the second half of 2021 (current crisis permitting) the S-Class will be able to drive in conditionally automated mode with the new ‘Drive Pilot’  which will be an optional extra. This is for use in situations where traffic density is high or in tailbacks, taking the pressure off the driver. MHH International will be delighted to supply more information on this and other Mercedes-Benz models.
