All motor enthusiasts know that prestige car maker Lamborghini produce some of the most dramatic sports cars on the road today, well, they’ve done it again with the Temerario and, in line with current trends, it’s a plug-in hybrid like its SUV cousin, the Urus (see the Urus here) and it is spectacularly good-looking: The only word is ‘Wow’. This car is the successor to the superb Huracán, which of course, remains available on the pre-owned marketplace. The legendary Italian marque’s new twin-turbo 4 litre V8 hybrid super sports car, sets a new benchmark for the super sports car segment with a total power output of 907bhp (919PS), reaching a top speed of more than 210 mph (over 340 km/h) and accelerating from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in a scant 2.7 seconds.
The Exterior
From the first glance, the Temerario clearly reveals Lamborghini DNA and that typical Lamborghini silhouette: clear lines, short and compact overhangs, integrated aerodynamics and a bold shark nose featuring a new hexagonal ‘Daytime Running Light’ signature, rendering it strongly recognizable and identifiable, even at a distance.
The hexagon concept can be found as the main design theme throughout the car: on the main bodywork, the side air intakes, the tail-lights and in the remarkable hexagonal exhaust pipe. The daytime running lights, which incorporate an air tunnel, are part of the design philosophy of incorporating lights within the aerodynamic concept. Furthermore, air channels positioned below the headlights improve the aero performance and cooling of the front high-performance braking system for better efficiency.
The design is characterized by well-formed athletic surfaces and a cabin that tapers towards the hexagonal tailpipes. The tip of the hood dominates the entire front end in a strong and striking shark's nose design, emphasising the speed. The sharp, elegant headlights are slightly overlapped by the hood, while air-guiding slats connect the low front spoiler with the hood and fins on the sides direct the airflow along the flanks. Sharply shaped side skirts support the aerodynamics and increase downforce at the same time. The powerful and efficient air intakes behind the side doors ensure the necessary airflow for the V8 bi-turbo’s performance and at the same time, visually enhance the chassis’ downforce. A fixed rear spoiler emphasizes the car’s rear width. The compact yet technical rear end incorporates details from motor sport, such as the wide diffuser that extends under the vehicle and the integrated exhaust tailpipes. The rear lights also feature the new hexagonal design, whilst also allowing air to pass through for engine cooling. The roof is also functional in terms of aerodynamics. A slightly rearward offset profile directs the air directly onto the integrated rear wing. The designers almost invisibly integrated air inlets behind the passenger compartment above the sculpted shoulder delivering a highly functional component that helps supply the engine, radiator and turbocharger with sufficient air.
The Interior
The interior mirrors the extraordinary exterior design, creating a balance between digital technology and physical experience. Obviously, only the best-quality materials such as carbon, leather and ‘Corsatex’ suede run throughout the interior, combining them to create a high-quality interior experience with a special feel. Many interior elements can also be ordered in carbon fibre as an option, including parts of the centre console, air vents, door panels, parts of the dashboard, steering wheel and steering column.
In addition to the premium and elegant lightweight materials, potential buyers can enjoy that ‘pilot’ experience thanks to classical Lamborghini elements such as the Start/Stop ‘power button’ inspired by aviation; an e-gear lever; and red ‘line-up’ indicator on the steering wheel to emphasize the extreme sportiness of the Temerario.
Following on from this ‘Feel like a pilot’ philosophy, thanks to the new generation dashboard, the pilot and ‘co-pilot’ quickly become one with the car; all very Zen. Clear and intuitive to operate, the pilot can reach all the controls from their perfect seat position. Hexagonal air vents are elegantly integrated into the cockpit and the centre console has space for a smartphone and wallet. The newly-developed steering wheel with optional carbon elements takes inspiration from the racing world, and allows the driver to control the main driving functions. On the left-hand side of the steering wheel is the red-crowned rotor, which is used to select driving modes. Below this are buttons for the lift function to raise the vehicle in case of traffic calming measures and the like, the ‘race start’ button; and between them the switches for the indicators. The driver can operate Launch Control with a simple touch of a button, for maximum control. There are a host of options too numerous to add here but buyers can rest assured that this car comes equipped with the very latest in safety technology, connectivity and infotainment.
There are three displays on the dashboard: Two for the driver (a 12.3 inch instrument panel and an 8.4 inch screen for infotainment), and one 9.1 inch unit directly in front of the passenger. The software can also hook into the optional Lamborghini Vision Unit (LVU) camera set-up, to offer a safety-focused dash cam. This car is the complete package.
Compared to the Huracán, the interior of the Temerario has been completely redesigned. while at the same time further developing the design language first seen on the Revuelto (which we reviewed last year, here). Thanks to the new space-frame chassis, the Temerario offers significantly more interior space than its predecessor. A low and ergonomic seating position offers the pilot and co-pilot a perfect connection and integration with the vehicle while at the same time providing a high level of comfort. The new design adds more space meaning that even the tallest drivers can get comfortable (even with a helmet if trying your hand on the track). There is room for items such as sports equipment in the load compartment under the bonnet (hood) with 112 litres of stowage volume. Other everyday items can be stowed behind the seats.
The Drive
The Lamborghini Temerario offers no less than thirteen varied driving experiences that make this super sports car versatile and capable both in daily driving or on a circuit. The drive modes can be selected via the rotors on the steering wheel. Choose between Città, Strada, Sport, Corsa and Corsa Plus (ESC Off: electronic controls deactivated). Furthermore, by pressing the ‘chequered flag’ button for two seconds, Launch Control is activated to exploit the maximum potential when starting from a standing start. The engine is supported by no less than three electric motors which help both economy and of course, emissions.
This car, the company state with complete confidence, will offer an innovative and emotional driving experience at the same time. The e-4WD system including real torque vectoring is a perfect combination as this is a car that is absolutely precise and effective on the track, or a more typically rear-wheel drive character, oriented towards maximum involvement for the driver.
