If ever a brand could be said to stick with the plan, it is BMW. Every new saloon or SUV that appears from the German manufacturer, even if the badge was removed, could only be a BMW. It's the same with this exciting new release, the 4 Series Coupé.
The Design
BMW insist that this fine-looking motor delivers on both stunning performance and supreme handling capabilities. The exterior has a sleek and distinctive new design that looks fast standing still coupled with that very bold and aggressive front end and featuring a new take on the traditional kidney-shaped grille.
The interior is, as would be expected, of very high quality with a driver-focussed pilot's seat that offers upgraded driver assistance technologies. On the technology side greater fuel efficiencies are derived from the introduction of mild hybrid technology. Full-LED headlights are fitted as standard and feature two U-shaped fibre-optic light guides in the lower section which serve as the daytime driving lights.
If the regular version is not sporting enough for you the BMW 4 Series Coupé can be ordered in M Sport model format. Large outer air intakes in the front apron and a striking rear apron are coupled with a diffuser element to enhance the two-door model’s performance credentials.
The Features
With cleanly designed surfaces, the as-expected high-quality materials and the driver-focused layout of the cockpit, the interior just shouts performance. The outer edges of the high-set centre console have knee pads to cater for a sporty driving style if that's your thing and the start/stop button for the engine is now positioned in a control panel in the centre console. The selector lever is joined by the iDrive Controller and the buttons for the Driving Experience Control and electro-mechanical parking brake. All within easy reach.
The front sport seats are of a new design to, we learn, improving comfort and support even more thanks to contoured side bolsters to provide maximum support during hard cornering. The seats are of course heated and electrically adjustable. Vernasca leather trim comes in a choice of five colours and includes special decorative quilting and seam patterns.
Practicality hasn’t been overlooked either, the car featuring a 40:20:40 split backrest, an array of larger storage areas and a boot (trunk) space that has been increased to 440 litres.
The Power
Under the bonnet, new technology has been developed and significant advances made. All the petrol and diesel engines now belong to the BMW Efficient Dynamics family and feature TwinPower Turbo technology. The introduction of mild hybrid technology with a 48V starter-generator ensures even sharper power delivery combined with reduced fuel consumption and emissions.
The top of the range BMW M440i xDrive Coupé model offers a powerful six-cylinder in-line petrol engine. Otherwise, variants will have a choice of two four-cylinder petrol units and a four-cylinder diesel from launch. The line-up is set to expand further with the arrival of two straight-six diesel engines scheduled for next year. All the engines link up as standard with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, which can now be specified with a new optional Sprint function. BMW xDrive is also available on the four-cylinder diesel model, while the intelligent all-wheel-drive system features as standard on all six-cylinder variants.
BMW models are immensely popular and this fabulous new coupé augments the range. If you are interested in importing BMW vehicles or any other prestige brand we look forward to hearing from you.
