Is the saloon car sector about to be resurrected? In a world of chunky SUV’s, the sleek saloon has taken a bit of a back seat in recent years. Well, German car maker Audi have decided there’s still room for a roomy saloon in 2025 and here it is: Audi is expanding its A6 model series with an elegant saloon that raises the bar for design, innovation, aerodynamics and comfort. Drive ‘business car’ for the 21st century.
The streamlined body of this new A6 Saloon achieves the lowest drag coefficient ever recorded by a series-production Audi model with a combustion engine, creating the optimal environment for a new generation of even more efficient petrol and diesel engines.
Cutting edge suspension options that strike an exceptional balance between comfort and control plus a wealth of advanced new infotainment and driver assistance technologies, all contribute to a driving experience that brings the A6 emphatically back to the fore in its class. The A6 Saloon goes on sale in the next few weeks with Sport, S line and Edition 1 specification options.

The Streamlined Exterior
The elegant design of the premium Audi A6 Saloon typifies contemporary automotive design. As can be seen in our images, the curve of the windows upper contour is a defining feature of the streamlined body, as is the striking front end with its sleek headlights, prominently positioned Audi rings and large, low-set ‘Singleframe’ grille. It incorporates a sophisticated airflow concept that makes a significant contribution to the saloon’s drag coefficient (Cd value) of 0.23, which stands as the best ever achieved by a series-production model with a combustion engine in Audi history, greatly aiding fuel efficiency.
At the front, side air intakes or ‘air curtains’ as they like to be known, achieve better airflow and give the saloon a powerful appearance, while two separately controllable cool-air intakes behind the grille also channel air as effectively as possible around the engine bay. As a new innovation, to harness the full potential of this technology, Audi have optimised the seal between the bumper and the cooling unit, reducing airflow losses in this area by up to seventy percent. A spoiler in the front bumper also reduces front-axle lift and, together with panels on the underbody, ensures controlled airflow under the vehicle.
Like the front end, the elongated and slightly upward-sloping rear end adds to the prestige look. The two rear lights with their precise graphics and the continuous light strip lend the new A6 Saloon a certain presence on the road, as does the vertical brake light. The special shape of the ‘notchback’ also contributes significantly to the vehicle’s outstanding aerodynamics. The sharp curvature of the tailgate and the large, wide diffuser ensure an ideal balance between lift at the rear axle and drag, which together enhance driving dynamics.

It’s an Audi, so it is quiet. Suppression of noise in the vehicle has been improved by up to thirty percent compared to the previous model, thanks to detail enhancements such as more tightly sealed windows and optimised door seals. Newly developed engine and transmission mount bushings make for a smoother and quieter ride, and even the shape of the transmission gear teeth has also been optimised, which benefits the acoustics of the ‘S tronic’ automatic gearbox as well. The tyres fitted to the 19 inch wheels (or optionally larger) have been acoustically fine-tuned by special noise absorbers; foam rings on the inside of the tyre that reduce air vibrations there and thus have a positive effect on noise levels.
The Latest In Lighting
Advanced lighting technology makes a significant contribution to greater road safety and is an essential part of the Audi experience. This is evident in the design of the advanced, digitised LED headlights and rear lights incorporated in the new A6 Saloon, which reflect typical Audi aesthetics and give drivers the opportunity to customise the appearance of their car according to their own preferences. At the same time, the digital lighting display provides innovative functions that improve communication with other road users.

Business Class Interior
As ever, the very spacious prestige interior is typically Audi. The fit and finish is superb, with the very latest technology as standard. There’s an optional panoramic glass roof too. The interior of the A6 Saloon epitomises the new Audi design philosophy, combining a ‘human- centric’ and ‘material-driven’ approach that prioritises space, comfort and the specific needs of occupants through clear menu structures and a logical operating concept. In fact, the digital stage is at the heart of the design. Its focal point is the ‘Audi MMI’ (multi-media interface) panoramic display, comprising a thin, free-standing display with a curved shape using OLED technology. It consists of the Audi virtual cockpit with an 11.9inch screen and a 14.5 inch MMI touch screen.
These are complemented by a 10.9 inch MMI front passenger display, which is also perfectly integrated into the dashboard design. It enables the front passenger to access websites and stream video content and also helps when navigating or searching for fuel stations. Thanks to the dynamic privacy mode, distracting content such as videos cannot be viewed from the driver’s seat while driving. As part of the optional ‘Sound & Vision’ pack, the car can be optionally equipped with a new, configurable ‘head-up display’ (HUD). A wide range of information can be displayed on the HUD, including speed, active assistance systems, navigation instructions, and media information. For the first time, drivers have the option of controlling vehicle and infotainment functions via the head-up display. Thanks to its space-efficient installation and adapted display technology, the visible image area is much larger than before, and the display is significantly more precise than previously.

As a contrast to the digital and technical areas, the premium interior of the Audi A6 Saloon features a ‘Softwrap’ that extends from door to door across the entire width of the instrument panel. It has the effect of making the interior appear wider, and also of further refining its inherently comfortable ambiance in combination with selected high-grade cloths, leather-effect materials and technical fabrics such as ‘Cascade’ textile and ‘Dinamica’ microfibre, which are partially made from recycled materials such as polyester.
The distinct interior of the A6 Saloon also makes an impression in the dark. The contoured lighting along the dashboard and in the doors accentuates the width of the interior, while the indirect light below the Audi ‘MMI’ panoramic display and in the centre console creates a floating effect. The high-quality materials in the doors are also attractively illuminated.
The Power
At launch, the new Audi A6 Saloon will be available with two 2 litre engines – one TFSI petrol and one TDI diesel. The diesel unit features ‘mild hybrid’ technology (MHEV plus) and is therefore partially electrified. The diesel variant also offers all-wheel-drive. The MHEV plus system supports the combustion engine, enhancing performance and refinement and reducing CO2 emissions. It consists of three main components: a 48-volt battery, a belt alternator starter, and a new power-train generator with integrated power, supporting partial electric driving, when parking, say.
