Our speciality here at MHH International is the world of prestige cars and they rarely come any more prestigious than the BMW M Series. The letter ‘M’ means everyday road driving spiced with track thrills. This latest pairing of the mid-sized M3 and M4 models is not to be trifled with. They are packed with power and need skilled handling to reward the careful driver.
In a world dominated by mainstream crossovers and SUVs, these high-performance cars offer authentic automotive allure thanks to cutting-edge racing-car technology. Better still, they are available to order now.
The Concept
The new BMW M3 Saloon and M4 Coupé are conceived as road vehicles with racetrack heritage. They are tuned alongside the testing programme for the M4 GT3 race car, with the usual blend of BMW dynamism, agility and precision to deliver everyday usability and long-distance capability.
The Power
These cars are powered by inline six-cylinder engines with M TwinPower Turbo technology. Designed to rev to the max they’ll deliver a maximum 510bhp and up to 650Nm of torque. More than enough for the daily commute wouldn’t you say? The engines feature two turbochargers, optimised direct fuel injection, cooling and oil supply adapted for track use; a model-specific exhaust system with electrically operated flaps for an ‘emotionally stirring’ engine soundtrack. These car makers love their hyperbole.
Drive is through, again, a model-specific six-speed manual gearbox with ‘Gear Shift Assistant’ for extremely dynamic driving situations. Alternatively, there’s a new-generation of the eight speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, matched with three shift programs.
M xDrive (All-Wheel-Drive) links up with an active M differential and a rear-wheel-biased setup featuring three selectable modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD for pure rear-wheel drive and deactivated stability control, for ultimate thrills.
The Ride
Adaptive M-specific suspension offers electronically controlled shock absorbers and M Servotronic steering with variable ratio as standard. Also as standard are M-specific front and rear-axle modifications, a new integrated braking system with two settings for pedal feel and response. Naturally, the brakes are a match for the power with M-Compound brakes as standard. Carbon ceramic brakes are optional and well worth specifying.
Other handling specifics include dynamic stability control including M Dynamic Mode and, for the first time, integrated wheel slip limitation with traction control adjustable through ten stages. The whole rides on forged M-light-alloy wheels. At the front 18-inch and on the rear 19-inch. Competition models with M xDrive have 19” and 20” respectively with an option for performance tyres available.
The Interiors
The two body variants have their own individual exterior designs with a driver-orientated aesthetic. Both have ergonomically optimised sports-car cockpits with M-specific displays and controls. Newly developed sport seats and fine-grain Merino leather trim with extended features are fitted as standard; optionally with seat ventilation. New M-carbon bucket seats with structure-based design are also available as an option.
The M ‘Performance Pro’ steering wheel is characterised by the use of Alcantara, which is very common in motor racing due to its grip properties. Therefore the pronounced Alcantara gripping area with large thumb rests and special lining offers the driver maximum grip and a highly direct steering feel. Further motor-sport-inspired features include the blue top-dead-centre marker and hand stitching.
These cars are the pinnacle of the M-Series story. Get in touch with us here at MHH International and enquire about the drive of your life.
