Not so long ago, the automotive world witnessed if not the demise, then the loss of popularity of the good old saloon (or sedan) car, the victim of the rise of the ubiquitous SUV. Consider the saloon: Four doors, a hatch or a boot (trunk), premium comfort and strong motive power; it’s all we once needed. The good news then, is that the saloon car is back. It hasn’t come roaring back into favour so much as starting to appeal again to those drivers who don’t want a high-sided, ‘action-stations’ orientated vehicle. Further, these days some of these cars have hybrid options and others are fully electric.
There follows the MHH International list of the most popular executive saloons from prestige car makers in 2025, available for export from the UK to global destinations that include Kenya and New Zealand as well as many other countries around the world. There’s a list of destinations served on our website Home Page.
Mercedes Benz
No list of premium cars would be complete without at least one from Mercedes-Benz; in fact we have two:
A name synonymous with the executive car and the traditional sedan, the latest version helps to build on that. Bigger than its predecessor, the interior is noticeably more spacious and in both the front and back seats there's plenty of head, leg and shoulder room for all occupants to get comfy. There's also plenty of technology inside for the drivers aid and entertainment for passengers. Best of all it comes with a large 24.1kWh battery and an electric motor, which means that the car can travel up to seventy-two miles on electric-only power. Ideal for the urban business user.
It could be argued that the first version of the C-Class was the German-made model that started the executive car revolution off way back in 1993 with advertising that featured ‘new’ innovations like satellite navigation and climate control. How far we’ve come in thirty years. The current model improves on its forerunners with variants like the C300e plug-in hybrid version which offers an impressive electric-only range of 68 miles and good overall economy.
On the road, the C-Class is a very composed drive thanks in part to its standard rear air suspension, striking a fine balance between ride comfort and cornering composure. On the inside the C-Class interior reveals the kind of visual impact buyers expect from this premium German marque. Not as large as the E-Class, the compact nature of this car makes it a good all-rounder, especially in hybrid guise.
BMW
Staying within the borders of Germany, BMW products have always been known for being drivers’ cars. Nothing has changed. For high mileage users the notion of a car that is a really enjoyable steer on any roads is a real bonus and there’s none better than the old faithful, the -
Over the years the BMW 3 Series in its various iterations has remained the go-to executive saloon, and it's not hard to see why. The latest version is the best-steering BMW of recent times, matching that manoeuvrability with fine body control and plenty of grip, all the while delivering good ride comfort and a relaxing environment.
Like the cars above the plug-in hybrid version is probably the best for the business user, although a range of motive power is available. The hybrid offers strong performance and a decent electric-only range of up to 37 miles for local runs and excellent economy overall. The interior of the BMW 3 Series feels very well made with tight tolerances and the latest safety technology plus a great infotainment system keeps this model up to the mark.
All BMW acolytes will tell interested parties that the ` is one of the best, bigger prestige saloon cars of recent times but here, with EV’s coming to the fore, BMW have sensibly offered a fully-electric version in the form of the i5.
Although both the internal combustion and electric versions look pretty much the same, under the skin they are very different. The i5 is available with single or dual-electric motors and an 81.2kWh battery. Which you choose may depend on use. As a family car or for business users, the single motor version (eDrive40) is a good choice; it’s quick, quiet and has a long range of up to 349 miles. The dual motor version is fast but inevitably range is slightly less; great though if you enjoy your driving and like to crack on. The i5 offers a good balance of ride comfort and handling no matter which version of the i5 you go for. The interior is classy, well made and bang-up-to-date for tech.
Audi
Audi, yet another premium German brand, offer a wide range of high class cars to suit literally every purpose, but for executive saloon car users the best choice is likely to be the -
Although there are both petrol and diesel engines to choose from (and very good they are too), new for 2025 Audi have introduced an A5 e-Hybrid variant that is picking up the plaudits. This car can manage up to 67 miles on electric power alone offers a comfortable driving position with lots of adjustment, and a decent amount of rear-seat space for your passengers, as, of course, do all the other versions in the range.
It’s very good to drive too featuring excellent handling and a ride that proves comfortable across the range. Equipment levels are very high, especially if buyers step up to the ‘S Line’ trim for a really plush interior experience.
Lotus
We are discussing executive cars in this blog post which is not an article where you would expect to find a Lotus. Well, life is full of surprises and one of them is this EV from the famous sports car builder of legend.
Emeya
Well, why not? The Emeya is a fully-electric and a proper, roomy executive car for when you think it is time for something different; and this EV is certainly different, thanks to this twin-motor rocket having a real turn of pace.
Remarkably, the top-specified variant, the Emeya R, has up to 905bhp from its two electric motors, giving it a 0-62mph time of just 2.8 seconds! For a more sedate pace and better range though the basic model may well prove superior for everyday use. The Emeya may be classed as an executive car but it still has the handling and power to make every journey enjoyable for the driver; after all, it is a Lotus.
Inside, the cabin is smart and modern with big screens and soft surfaces and the build quality is up there with the best. Outside, the makers have eschewed the traditional saloon profile for a low-slung, curvy look. This is a very attractive option for the urban or suburban user.
Tesla
There has to be a Tesla on every list, so we won’t make an exception here. Tesla remain the market leader when it comes to electric cars and there’s none more popular globally then the -
The Tesla Model 3 has played a significant part in making EV’s desirable and viable for everyday use, utilising Mr Musk’s innovative battery and motor technology. Most recently updated with a raft of improvements and efficiency updates in 2024, this premium model now offers improved aerodynamics for a longer battery range, lower noise levels and a revised interior with better quality than the early versions, plus a simplified, screen-orientated cockpit layout. It’s a car that stays up to date and, despite all the advances made by other car companies, is still the one to beat. It is comparatively reasonably priced too.
