We all need a little luxury in our lives, especially these days. So, if you really want to push the automotive side of your life to the max then how about the new Bentley Flying Spur? Here at MHH International we specialise in prestige cars and vehicles do not come more prestigious then this latest offering from the British brand.
Hybrid Bentley Power
The company have announced their latest model, the Flying Spur Hybrid, seen here in the Odyssean special edition version. This is the brand’s first step on a journey to introduce new sustainable materials as part of its ‘Beyond100’ strategy of delivering a product range composed entirely of plug-in hybrids or battery electric vehicles by 2026.
The new power-train combines a 2.9L V6 petrol engine with an advanced electric motor. With high power reserves, superior torque and quick throttle response the latest hybrid model gives little away to the Flying Spur V8 in acceleration, passing 60 mph from a standstill in 4.1 seconds. Delivering a total of 536 bhp (544 PS) and 750 Nm (553 lb.ft) of torque; an additional 95 bhp in comparison to the company’s Bentayga Hybrid, for example. The Flying Spur has the capability to cover over 400 miles (700km) when fully fuelled. The new power-train achieves, they say, a significant reduction in fuel consumption too, whilst still providing the authentic Bentley character of effortless, refined performance. This fine new car also includes new, even more sustainable materials throughout the cabin.
On The Inside
The cabin features panels of, the company states, beautifully crafted tweed made from 100% British wool, twisting a blend of tonal colours into a bespoke yarn to create a unique natural luxury textile. Focusing, like most car makers, on sustainability, the open pore Koa wood veneer fascias use ninety percent less lacquer than other high-gloss veneers, and allow the natural surface texture and aesthetic of the wood to be enjoyed. A small point but another tick on the sustainability chart.
The centre console is finished in a minimalist (Bentley’s word for a console that would look like an aircraft flight deck on a mainstream vehicle), linen veneer, while a dedicated three-colour leather scheme lends the whole interior new depth. Together with new materials, sustainable leather is used widely across the cabin, thanks to its long-term durability. An interesting point here is that the company references back to their 1955 S1 Flying Spur for their design process on this model, as their legacy sixty-six year old car still retains its original, leather interior which is still in immaculate condition. This is why buyers love a Bentley.
Proven Hybrid Technology
As part of Bentley’s journey towards electrification and the recently announced ‘Beyond100’ strategy mentioned above, research was undertaken to understand customer usage of Bentley Hybrid in general. It turns out that over ninety per cent of customers use their first generation Bentayga Hybrid on a daily basis or several times a week and nearly all of their customers use the EV mode, with half of the drivers consistently undertaking journeys of less than 30 miles.
In real world terms, this means that the majority of the journeys, whether office commuting or school runs, can be achieved predominantly whilst producing zero emissions. This practice seems to be consistent with hybrid users generally.
Effortless Grand Touring
The Flying Spur Hybrid demonstrates that hybridisation does not compromise luxury or performance. With a seamless blend between the internal combustion engine and electric motor, typically Bentley serenity is on offer regardless of driving mode or style.
There’s the usual suite of equipment options, including advanced driver assistance systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Night Vision and Head-Up Display and convenience through the connected car services we all use these days.
