There’s something about Italian car design that seems to transcend the mainstream norm. Maserati cars are no exception. Maserati design is about timeless elegance, but with a modern approach to aerodynamics and performance. While retaining the striking grille and the Trident badge of legend, the latest model cars take full advantage of the latest techniques in build quality and new interior materials. The new MC20 supercar heralds the beginnings of the ‘Maserati New Era’, introducing a new range of cars for the future. All the models come with a choice of trim levels and the Levante and Ghibli now have a hybrid option.

Quattroporte

There are currently four models available with probably the most recognisable being the flagship Quattroporte. It is only possible to make a romantic-sounding name in the Italian language; for everyone else it is ‘The Four-Door’. Whilst the design has remained more or less the same since inception, the latest version of Quattroporte has a revised grille and the latest advances in technology.

It is powered, like the other cars in the range, with a choice of V6 or V8 engines, driving through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and is available in various specification levels. There is also an option for a diesel engine. Whichever engine is selected, it is always accompanied by that compelling Maserati soundtrack.

Ghibli

Essentially a smaller Quattroporte, the Ghibli is a mid-sized executive saloon car that is one of the best drivers’ cars around. There are three engines available for the Ghibli; two twin-turbo V6 petrol engines sourced from Ferrari and a 3.0-litre single turbo V6 diesel for the more economically minded. As with the other cars in the Maserati portfolio, the interior is exquisite, beautifully trimmed and comfortable and of course has the traditional jewel-like analogue clock among all the digital technology.

Levante

Those aficionados who may well ask why a brand with such a sporting pedigree would introduce a sport utility vehicle (SUV) into it’s range need not worry. The Levante is a full size SUV that is surprisingly capable off-road thanks to a sophisticated all-wheel drive system. The car offers a spacious cabin which blends innovative solutions, such as the state-of-the art infotainment system, with precious materials like the newly introduced full-grain natural leather.

MC20

The MC20 is the company’s first mid-engine two-seater supercar capable of achieving a top speed of over 202mph. It is also the first Maserati with a carbon fibre monocoque, meaning the whole car hardly tips the scales. Paired with a Formula One-derived engine, the result is jaw-dropping acceleration and huge top speed. A supercar that bears the Trident legend.

Future Maserati

There seems to be a new lease of life at Maserati. Increasingly independent from the parent company, the Italian brand is taking full advantage of the resources and know-how. Initially there will be a new V6 engine for the MC20.and there are plans for revised versions of the existing cars and some entirely new models by 2024, they say. Watch out for electric variants of the Quattroporte and the Levante. There’s a new model coming soon too: The Grecale. It’s a crossover and the brand have high hopes for it, pushing innovation and automotive thinking forward for the future.
