Maserati Quattroporte

This is a saloon car with immense presence and an automotive history dating back a Century or more. An exclusive and prestigious ‘four-door’, (it sounds so much better in Italian), the Maserati Quattroporte is a little different from the usual powerful premium saloons from Germany, offering space, grace and pace.

The Exterior

The modern-day Quattroporte is as distinctive and exclusive as its predecessors. The long dominant, bonnet (hood) leads into the famous grille, creating a ‘shark’ effect. The car comes in entry-level, S, SQ4 and GTS versions, each bringing different trim and technology variations; there’s even a diesel model. All though have the iconic side air vents. Each versions brings with it a choice of alloy wheels in different sizes and a variety of trim levels are available as an upgrade for all V6 versions.

At the back, the V8 GTS version can be identified by its twin, trapezoidal, integrated dual pipe exhaust system in chrome-plated stainless steel, while the V6 and diesel models use twin oval, dual exhaust pipes. This is a very aerodynamic vehicle. To those who understand these things, the drag coefficient is just 0.28, this fabulous car really cuts through the air.

Adaptive LED headlights are fitted as standard on all Quattroporte versions for low and high beam, daytime running lights, parking and turn lights, featuring Static Bending Lights and an automatic height regulation feature, which is novel. The LED headlights include a front camera that supports ‘BiLed Glarefree’ adaptive high beam. This function can create a light ‘tunnel’ by lowering the beams to reduce the light shining on vehicles travelling towards you, while keeping all other zones fully illuminated. This allows the driver to maintain high beam without dazzling oncoming drivers.

The Interior

Thanks to a long wheelbase, the Maserati Quattroporte has set a benchmark for roominess, while the superior, premium finish gives both driver and passengers the sensation of travelling in real leather-clad exclusivity. Settling in behind the leather-finished steering wheel is straightforward thanks to an electrically adjustable steering column for both reach and height.

The dashboard features a full-width surface in a variety of exclusive trims, underlining the refined character of the Quattroporte and rounded out by decorative inserts on the front and rear door panels. The dashboard interface is driver-focussed. The instrument cluster’s large, analogue rev-counter and speedometer flank a 7” TFT display for many of the car’s operational features. The infotainment system is based on a high-resolution 8.4” touchscreen, which features the latest graphics and improved climate control functions. A double rotary knob in forged aluminium provides intuitive control of the audio volume and other functions.

Driving The Maserati Quattroporte

New or used, the diesel unit may suit business users or drivers who like to manage real world fuel economy with up to 45 miles per gallon, but for the real Maserati experience it is the 3.0 litre, twin-turbo V6 that provides suitable performance without costing the earth to run. The V6 and V8 petrols deliver a fantastic soundtrack and rapid performance, the 0-62mph sprint being achieved in 5.1 and 4.7 seconds respectively.

To fully enjoy the power potential the Sport mode sets up the gear shifts, throttle response and stability control system for enthusiastic driving. It also makes the exhaust louder and, let’s be honest, is worth activating for this purpose alone.

An eight-speed automatic gearbox links the engine to the rear wheels which allows the driver to shift between between serene smoothness or driving joy. The boot (trunk) will hold 530 litres of luggage and there’s a 60:40 split-folding rear seat back making the storage space more flexible.

Is It Reliable?

Maserati insist that this model is strenuously tested before launch, emphasising their commitment to quality control, so owners should experience no problems. Potential buyers wishing to import from the UK to Kenya, New Zealand and elsewhere should check with us here at MHH International for availability of this exclusive vehicle.
