The Import Process & Timings

Importing from the UK takes just 40 days from the moment we identify your car to the moment it arrives at the port. We take every care to make sure your car reaches you in optimum condition. Import Requirements In Mauritius

To import a second-hand car, you need a valid import permit from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Protection prior to the importation. The age of the car should be not less than 18 months and not more than 48 months at the time of the shipment. Documents required to clear a second-hand car from Customs:

  1. Invoices
  2. Bill of lading / Airway Bill
  3. Pre-shipment Inspection Certificate (PSI) from Bureau Veritas
  4. Log book / Registration book
  5. CO2 Emission Certificate is required if the car is registered after July 2005.
  6. In case of returning resident where the CO2 amount is not mentioned on PSI, a certificate from manufacturer is required.
  7. Returning citizens importing a car prior to the 1st July 2005 need not produce a CO2 Emission Certificate.
  8. No. CO2 Emission Certificate is required for a vintage car.
  9. "Classic or vintage motor car" means a motor car which has been registered before 1st January 1970.

Cost Checklist to get my car on the road

The costs you can expect to pay to import and put your car on the road are:

  1. Purchase of car (includes car price, shipping to Port Louis and Marine Insurance)
  2. Import Permit, this must be obtained from the Ministry of Commerce prior to arrival of the car.
  3. Customs Duty, this is based on the engine capacity and value of the car. The car’s value is assessed by the customs department.
  4. Sales Tax at the current rate.
  5. Registration, this varies depending on the engine capacity of the car.
  6. Road tax, known locally as “declaration”.
