Pure Luxury & Supercar Performance: Bentley Flying Spur
From W.O. Bentley, who founded Bentley Motors in 1919, to the current team of over 4,000 dedicated employees, the prestige car company’s extraordinary products have always been designed and built by skilled craft’s people using only the finest of materials.
From those modest beginnings over a century ago, Bentley Motors has grown from strength to strength always carrying forward those benchmarks for luxury and performance. Now, the British car maker have just announced the latest generation of their beautiful Flying Spur model, once again setting the four-door saloon (sedan) standard with superb, no compromise handcrafted luxury and supercar performance.
The Exquisite Exterior
Building around Bentley’s class-leading performance V8 hybrid power-trains, the latest Flying Spur receives a fresh exterior with clean, modern and uninterrupted surfaces including, interestingly, single front headlamps for the first time on a Bentley model since 1962. In so doing, the design DNA of the Flying Spur now falls in line with that of the fourth-generation Bentley Continental GT family.

The radiator grille is now fully integrated within the front bumper (fender) and the single headlamps are offered in two variations dependant on model. Further, the wing vent detail makes way for a smooth, clean front wing with badging denoted behind the front wheel. It goes without saying that also on board are all the latest safety and infotainment technology in state-of-the-art applications.
At the back, a new boot (trunk) lid evolves the previous styling with flowing surfaces and clean lines, complemented by new rear lamps and a body-coloured number plate surround. Completing the external changes are new twenty-two inch wheel finishes, optionally available on both Azure and S (of which more below) trim level models.
Dark Teal is the newest exterior paint colour to be offered. A stunning new mid-blue, metallic exterior paint, with hints of green, providing a contemporary, sophisticated, nature-inspired colour to the palette. The fine metallic flakes give a graceful depth, highlighting the form language in the surfaces.

The S Model
The ‘S’ models are aimed squarely at the performance-focused driver. The fourth generation Flying Spur S models are the fastest and most powerful yet to carry the ‘S’ badge, and with 671BHP (680PS) and 930Nm of mighty torque. The new S models’ ‘High Performance Hybrid’ power-train is 128BHP (130PS) more powerful than that of the previous generation Flying Spur. Fully deployed it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.6 seconds (0-100km/h in 3.7s) before reaching a top speed of 191 mph.
Complementing this advanced power-train is a chassis set up only currently available with the existing Speed and Mulliner models from this luxury brand. The Bentley ‘Performance Active Chassis’ includes Active All-Wheel-Drive (AWD), twin valve dampers, torque vectoring (front to rear and across the axles), the 48V Bentley Dynamic Ride active anti-roll system, and a new generation of ESC control software. For the first time on a Flying Spur S this also includes an electronic limited slip differential. This is Bentley’s most advanced and driver-focused AWD chassis setup, designed to deliver maximum sporting appeal and ability.

The sporting character of the new S models is vividly demonstrated at first glance. The ‘Blackline’ Specification adds to the look of the dark front lower bumper, with gloss black matrix grilles, whilst black Bentley wings and lettering sets the mood, giving these models a purposeful, lean and potent-looking stance. Complementing these visual signifiers of performance are ‘Beluga’ black mirror caps and sill extensions. Dark tint, full LED matrix headlamps featuring Bentley’s precision design detail are a feature shared only with the Flying Spur Speed. At the rear, the S specification includes dark tint tail lamps and tailpipe finishers for the sports exhaust.
The Virtuoso Collection
As if this car were not luxurious enough, the company also offer the ‘Virtuoso Collection’ representing an exclusive series of vehicles featuring the ‘Naim for Mulliner’ audio system, combined with refined materials, unique embroidery, and ‘Champagne Gold’ detailing inspired by high-end musical craftsmanship. It’s interesting how premium car makers are turning to completely non-automotive themes to interpret them in different ways into their designs. In this case, and available across the Bentley product range, are three curated music themes: Soprano, Tenor and Bass. These intriguing concepts span from serene and light interiors to darker, more dramatic designs. ‘Champagne Gold’ detailing extends throughout both the exterior and interior, including the winged badges, exhaust finishers, collection badges and even a Champagne Gold-edged key.

A Concert Hall Interior
Bentley interiors are always second-to-none, exuding as they do both luxury and comfort. Originally created for the coach built Bentley Batur exclusive model and with an option cost of £25,000 (excluding taxes, as ever) the ‘Naim for Mulliner’ sound system has now been developed for the ‘Virtuoso Collection’ to deliver Bentley’s most immersive audio experience to date.
Bentley Motors have enjoyed a partnership with Naim spanning over fifteen years with thousands of hours of innovation developments alone to produce the pinnacle ‘Naim for Mulliner’ for the Batur, thus the logical next step was to share these developments to create the ultimate audio system for other Bentley models.
The unique ‘Naim for Mulliner’ system uses twenty one speakers, ensuring remarkable fidelity and enhanced frequency response, yet no loss of detail. The new speakers featured in the sound system are derived from ‘Grand Utopia’ speakers, and for both mid-range and tweeters feature patented ‘M’ cones. The exclusive ‘M’-profile made from a single piece (without a core cover) provides incredible rigidity and perfectly combines the three critical criteria for a speaker driver: rigidity, lightness and damping. This enables an extremely linear frequency response with a low distortion rate and better sound dispersion. This highly advanced cone delivers a breath-taking level of detail enhancing the listening experience.
