Introducing The All-New Mercedes-Benz C Class EV 

German premium car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz have been quite prolific in the last few weeks, unleashing some excellent new and revamped models onto an unsuspecting world. This time it’s the turn of the legendary C-Class, but now in full electric vehicle (EV) guise. 

The C-Class has always been one of Mercedes‑Benz’s best-selling and most popular model series; it could be said that it’s a success story defined by innovation over many, many years. Now the brand is once again taking the lead and redefining this prestige segment with the first and all-new electric C‑Class model. 

Different yet familiar, that’s the consistent C‑Class way. In a world driven by constant change, the brand’s latest offering remains true to the core German values of elegance, comfort, intelligence and sportiness whilst raising each of them to a new level. About The C-Class 

This is a very good-looking vehicle; elegant and with some real charismatic kerb appeal. With its coupé-like silhouette, iconic illuminated grille featuring 1,050 illuminated dots and a shapely GT rear, the all-new electric C‑Class embodies the latest Mercedes‑Benz design language, making it a unique and highly desirable statement in this mid-size market segment. 

Uncompromising quality and craftsmanship down to the very last detail; that’s what is expected of Mercedes-Benz and it has to be said they have succeeded; this car feels special. This new model sets a new benchmark for premium quality and comfort with flowing shapes, refined materials of the highest quality including a brilliant interior and perfectly executed details such as the ‘Twisted Diamond’ Nappa leather design plus outstanding acoustic comfort which creates a unique atmosphere that appeals to all the senses. 

The new high-end electric seats indulge occupants with the full kit of lumbar support, massage function, seat ventilation and 4D sound. Further, there’s a new level of efficiency and climate comfort too: This new electric C‑Class provides excellent climate comfort shortly after getting in, even in winter and without pre-conditioning; this is an interesting development. For example, on a 20-minute journey at a frosty -7 degrees Celsius outside, the interior heats up twice as fast as in conventionally powered models thanks to a multi-source heat pump that requires only about half the energy that would otherwise be used. 

Technology 

The high-tech interior on this vehicle has much in common on the revised EQS model MHH International featured a couple of weeks ago. Why, you can even create your own starry sky! 162 stars, in fact, illuminated in the ‘Sky Control’ panoramic roof. The stars take on the colour of the individually selected ambient lighting. A starry sky could hardly be more personal and it beats lying out in a damp field at night to view the heavenly firmament. 

As would be expected from this premium car maker, there’s a high-tech interior that’s in a class of its own, making for an inviting, immersive experience. The 39.1 inch seamless ‘MBUX Hyperscreen’ sets new standards, creating a holistic driving and modern spatial experience. Innovative matrix backlight technology with over one thousand individual LEDs and independently adjustable brightness zones delivers clear information for the driver and personalised entertainment for the front passenger. 

Technology is always up to date and flexibly customisable, they say. The Mercedes‑Benz Operating System (MB.OS) enables regular over-the-air updates for all vehicle software. This will keep the C‑Class EV fresh for years to come, adding new functions without having to visit a workshop; anything from entertainment to driving assistance systems. 

Driving 

This new offering is the sportiest C‑Class ever, raising the bar for true driving pleasure. The sleek electric saloon is also an extremely agile cornering machine and as smooth as any S‑Class on long journeys. With 4.5 degree rear-axle steering, reducing turning circle to 11.2 metres, coupled with the company’s in-house ‘Airmatic’ air suspension with predictive damping based on Google Maps data. 

In line with modern driving practices, this car defines ‘Smart’ driving. The MBUX ‘Virtual Assistant’ with generative AI conducts complex conversations with memory, responding like an informed friend, this being also part of the Mercedes models we have reviewed recently. Navigation with ‘Electric Intelligence’, MBUX ‘Surround Navigation’ and a head-up display all ensure clear orientation, even in complex traffic situations.  

Long-distance comfort at its best, that’s how they describe this car: The electric C‑Class has a range of up to 473 miles (762k) thanks to high-grade aerodynamics and innovations such as the heat pump and the one-box braking system with a recuperation power of up to 300 kW. Further, 800-volt technology and a new battery with 94 kWh of usable energy content enables a recharge range of up to 202 miles (325k) in just 10 minutes. The EV is also ready for bidirectional charging, turning it into a mobile energy storage unit. 

It looks like this car will be a versatile all-rounder. It’s designed to be impressive in everyday use, on long trips and during leisure time. It offers plenty of storage space thanks to its generous interior, variable boot (trunk) and an unrivalled 101 litre front storage space where the engine used to be in olden times. With a towing capacity of up to 1.8 tonnes and state-of-the-art assistance systems, it is sure to be versatile and safe. 

This latter point is thanks to proactive protection in every driving situation, setting a new benchmark in safety: From ‘DISTRONIC’ and ‘MB.DRIVE’ assistance to the ‘PRE‑SAFE’ curve function (a system designed to prepare the car and occupants when a potential collision scenario is detected), the all-new electric C‑Class offers comprehensive active and passive safety features. Pioneering optional assistance functions include ‘MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO’ which enables a seamless point-to-point driving experience, even in dense urban traffic.
